Todays games were inviting kids to open awareness to absorb everything around at once, space around, movements, events at the same time staying alert - looking for the Killer in the group. Killer is a classic theater game that’s fun and is enjoyed by kids as well as adults. We slowly built up the game by playing lighter variations, and struggled a lil bit initially to communicate the rules to little kids but after a few iterations they caught up.

We had the session planned around freeze/go type of movements. Simple prompts such as fly like a bird/ roll in mud etc were given, and they had to improvise the movement/action until the freeze instruction was given, upon which they froze for a few seconds. Letting body loose and free when coupled with demand of instantly stopping all that and contain and hold back their excitement was something children loved and thoroughly enjoyed.

Freeze is a game that children all over the world play. In our variation it involved improvisation skills and when typically played,it is essentially about controlling body movement/dynamic action coupled with excitement. It is a very good example to demonstrate the power of free play, where children actually practice important life skills through games.

After the session they wanted to draw, so we put up emperor sheets on the wall and gave them colors, and suggested the theme of capturing their flow and emotions of the day. It was refreshing to see them using different body parts to draw and really different kinds of drawing reflected on their individual personalities I felt. Some were bright, some were expansive, some deep and some so intense. One of the children said her ‘brain is going for a ride around her body’ and for me these words captured a very visceral experience of flow state. It is so rewarding to know children actually immerse in the kind of nourishing experiences that we are trying to create!
